Wall-to-wall carpets, also known as "fitted carpets" or "broadloom carpets", is a type of carpeting which covers a given space in few pieces – or even one single piece – as opposed to several pieces laid out to create your flooring.Wall-to-wall carpets are manufactured in long, wide rolls. Most manufacturers have different backing options, some of which allow installation directly on the subfloor, but wall-to-wall is most often laid on underfelt over a substrate floor. Despite the perhaps confusing name, “wall-to-wall” doesn't necessarily need to cover the entire room. It can just as easily be installed only in an area, integrating with another carpet or a different flooring. When you decide to install wall-to-wall, you can count on it having a big impact on the look of the space.
But carpet can also affect how a room feels—and not just to your feet. As a natural insulator, wall-to-wall carpeting prevents warm (and cool) air from escaping and absorbs sound. And, unlike hard flooring, it can also inhibit slips and cushion falls, important considerations if you live with roughhousing kids or an aging parent.
